  • Total Time: 2 hours 20 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 32 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds apples (about 9 medium-sized), peeled and cored
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Juice of half a lemon (about 1 tablespoon)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the apples, apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Cook over medium-low heat uncovered for about 1 hour until apples are soft.
  2. Use a hand blender to puree the mixture until smooth. If you don’t have one, transfer small batches to a regular blender.
  3. Return the pureed mixture to the pot and cook uncovered over medium-low heat for another hour until thickened and deep mahogany brown.
  4. Stir in the lemon juice before transferring to jars for storage.
