Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Peel and slice apples thinly, then toss with lemon juice and both sugars in a skillet over medium heat until fork-tender.
- Stir in spices and vanilla extract before transferring to a greased casserole dish.
- In another bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt; mix in buttermilk and egg until just combined.
- Spread the topping over the apple mixture and scatter butter on top.
- Bake for 45–55 minutes until golden brown; let cool for 15 minutes before serving.
